The suspect in the October killing of Deon Manderson remains on the run and according to relatives this is as a result of police dragging their feet on the investigation.
Manderson, a father of five, was stabbed to death on October 21 while attending a bar-b-que and lime at Back Circle, East Ruimveldt.
Recently a teary-eyed Denise Williams told Stabroek News that because of the police’s actions she and her family believe that they are being denied justice.
Amidst sobs the woman related that the last thing she heard about her brother’s killer was that he had fled to Cayenne, French Guiana. She said that she is in touch with the police on a regular basis and police have told her they went to the man’s home and he was not there.
“They ain’t pushing this story. They mek de man get away”, Williams said adding that her brother could not defend himself as he was unable to use one of his legs because of a previous incident.
She expressed the view that had this not been the case her brother would have been able to defend himself. She said that based on the information she received the perpetrator “creep up behind he and juk he”. She added that he was stabbed twice and on both occasions the knife “went through the rib cage and through his heart”.
Williams noted that from the police’s actions, they care nothing about their grief. She was adamant that had the police done more, the killer could have been caught. She questioned why a wanted bulletin was not issued for his arrest.
“I vex because I am not getting no justice…He jus come up on me brother and kill he”, she said.
The woman told this newspaper it is hurtful to know that a person could commit such a crime and get away with it.
She said that up to now, she still cries for Manderson particularly because he was the only surviving brother. She explained that her three other brothers were murdered and up to now she is still awaiting justice in those matters.
Williams recalled that she visited the East Ruimveldt Outpost recently and a rank there told her that there was not much they could do because they do not know who they were looking for. She said that though she is being denied justice now, she is confident that someday the killer will be caught.
“My brother ain’t had a chance to defend heself. He jus go down like dat and the killer on the run”, she said.
The woman was unable to say what might have sparked the stabbing but from all indications, the two might have had an ongoing issue.
While speaking with this newspaper, the woman called on the police to work harder to find the suspect.
Based on police reports Manderson called `Yellow’, age 30, was standing on the roadway when he was confronted by the man around 1:30 am.
Following the stabbing the perpetrator fled the scene while the wounded man was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital.
He died while undergoing treatment.
