Patrick Joseph, the teen who was among nine persons air dashed to the city for treatment after the truck they were travelling in turned over on Saturday in the North West District, has regained consciousness.
Joseph, 15, who was admitted as a patient in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the Georgetown Hospital on Sunday, was among 15 passengers on a truck that turned over in a waterway as it was coming out of the interior at 10 miles, Port Kaituma, North West District.
Joseph’s mother, Linda Joseph, told Stabroek News that her son has since regained consciousness but he has to depend on a ventilator to breathe at times. She also said that he has not yet done any surgery for his internal injuries, which she plans to meet a doctor today to discuss. She had said that her son was coming out of the interior, where he worked with a miner, when the accident occurred.
Six other persons air dashed to the city were treated and discharged by the hospital, while two sought treatment at private facilities. A source said that the wet and muddy conditions of the road, which has large potholes, made matters even worse for the truck.
