Dear Editor,
Reference is made to Mr Karim Yusuf’s letter in your edition of Saturday, December 8, captioned ‘Why did NCN take Indian programmes off the air?’
I write to lend support to Mr Yusuf who rightfully questioned NCN on its decision to remove the Indian programmes from 100.1 FM. It is really a sad time for lovers of Indian music and songs. This act by NCN is a travesty. It is clear that somebody is insensitive to the fact that we live in a multi-cultural society and that somebody does not like or appreciate the music and songs that were presented on the three programmes – Chutney Beat, Filmi Duniya and Gems of India.
I am pretty certain that the presenter himself is hurt because in my view over the years Mr Jaideo has been doing justice to the lovers of Indian music and songs and Indian culture generally. Besides, he does a masterful job on the traditional all-night radio programmes.
Yours faithfully,
Sursattie K Suraj
