A man accused of assaulting his girlfriend after a misunderstanding was yesterday released on $25,000 bail at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Police allege that Tremel Lewis, 37, of Lot 77 D’Urban Street, Lodge, unlawfully assaulted Shonette Lyte on December 14, at the Guinness Bar.
Lewis, however, denied the charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who presided over the matter. No details of the assault were given to the court.
Attorney George Thomas, who represented Lewis, said that his client was placed on $10,000 station bail and made his appearance before the court.
As a result, he asked for Lewis to be granted bail.
With no objections from the prosecution, bail was granted but Lewis was also placed on a bond to keep the peace pending the determination of the case.
The matter will be called again on January 11 in Court One for reports and fixtures.
