Dear Editor,
On my way to attend the Georgetown Football Association Competition and the Kashif and Shanghai 23 Football Tournament, I witnessed an appalling sight outside the NCN compound on Homestretch Avenue. The roadside was littered with food boxes, paper and cups – an awful situation. It appears that this was the result of a children‘s party. I ask where were the adults or guardians? What a sad thought that we are producing a breed of young people with no care or appreciation for the environment. When the Solid Waste Project was first conceived a massive public education campaign was an important component, and why this was not implemented is beyond belief.
Happily on passing this same area outside NCN later in the night all of the debris had been removed. The organizer, NCN or whoever was responsible, needs to be congratulated; they deserve full praise. My concern is, however, that this mess by children ought not to have been there in the first place.
Editor, the new programme requires the cooperation of all, so kindly help by asking the organizers of all events to provide receptacles for waste and spend a few minutes to ask all present to dispose of their waste in a responsible manner.
We must not give up.
Yours faithfully,
Hamilton Green
Mayor
