Board of Industrial Training (BIT) training coordinator Coreen Connelly says that with effect from January 2013, a Driver/Salesman course will be added to the National Training Project for Youth Empowerment (NTPYE), a release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said yesterday.
Connelly revealed this development at the graduation of 204 persons at the West Demerara Technical and Vocational Training Centre in Leonora on December 18. The youths successfully completed training in over 23 courses at 24 different private and public agencies locations.
Regional Vice Chairman of Region Three, Azam Pasha Mohamed in his remarks said that the BIT has made it possible for the students to achieve a better future with their skills as they could be employed.
BIT provides six months of free training for school drop outs and unemployed youths aged 16- 20 years (except the heavy-duty operators’ course where they are required to be between the ages of 18-35).
Some of the courses covered by the programme are mechanics, garment and construction, cosmetology, welder/ fabricator, catering and child care assistant, GINA said.
The completion rate for the graduates in Region 3 was 100%. Twenty-five others will graduate in January 2013.
