Atwell and Lake ready for December 28 rematch

Guyana’s lightweight champion Revlon Lake said yesterday he was prepared for his rematch against Wonder Kid, Clive Atwell on December 28 at the Sophia Exhibition Site.

Lake, in an exclusive interview from Barbados via telephone, said facing Atwell should not be difficult.
“The last time I fought Atwell I was not doing a lot of training so he knocked me out in the fifth round, but that will not happen this time,” her vowed.

Lake said he has been in training for some time which he believes has made him ready to take on Atwell.

“I am doing a lot of sparring with Cleveland Fraser and Shaka Henry so I am in good shape for this fight. And in the end, I will be the one in the ring with my hands up in the air celebrating victory.”

Both Fraser and Henry, Lake said, are heavier than himself thus giving him the kind of strength training he needs before he faces Atwell.
Atwell, on the other hand, said Lake had called for the rematch one he accepted.

“But I told him to make it worth my while, so he said he will put his title on the line, so we will be vying for his title. So you can call it a rematch, but for me it is a different fight because it’s a title fight.”

The last fight, Atwell said, was not a title fight.
Atwell he had heard the talks of Lake not being prepared for their first fight which is why he agreed to the fight.
“I said let’s be fair! Let’s make it happen! But it will have to be worth it for me. The good thing about it this time is that he has no excuses as it relates to time as it is. Because it has been about it two months and change since he has agreed to fight me.”

Asked about preparations, he said that there was a bit of a setback as he was not able to start training at the scheduled time.

“Nevertheless we work with what we have to work with, but preparation is at the fine tuning stage where we are basically dealing with speed and a quick reaction. All the hard work has basically been done. There is a bit of sparring to be done from now until Sunday.”

Atwell since going professional in 2010 has a record of eight wins and one draw. Among his conquests are Prince Isadore, Orland Rogers, Earl Trotman, Cecil Smith, Mark Austin and Carlton Skeete. Lake has a record of six wins, seven loses and two draws.
