MELBOURNE, Australia, CMC – West Indies player Marlon Samuels produced a cameo all-round performance to propel Melbourne Renegades to a comfortable seven-wicket win over Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League here yesterday.
Playing at the Docklands Stadium, Hobart tallied an inadequate 102 for nine off their 20 overs, with Samuels snatching three for 23 off four overs of miserly off-spin.
Ricky Ponting top-scored with a run-a-ball 25 but Samuels, aided by legendary Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan (2-16), undermined the Hobart innings.
In reply, Melbourne sped to their target of 13.2 overs, led by opener Aaron Finch’s unbeaten 46 off 40 balls.
Samuels played a blinder, smashing 21 from just nine balls with five fours, and adding 30 from 17 balls for the second wicket with Finch.
On Tuesday, West Indies fast bowler Kemar Roach was on the losing end as his Brisbane Heat went down to Perth Scorchers by nine wickets under the Duckworth/Lewis Method.
In a rain affected encounter at the Gabba, Brisbane managed 109 for four off 13.1 overs. Chasing a revised target of 51 from five overs, Perth got home with four balls to spare.
Roach sent down one over that cost just five runs.
