Prison warden accused of smuggling ganja into Camp St Prison

A prison warden was remanded to prison yesterday after being accused of smuggling ganja into the Camp Street Prison.

Muneswar Jealall, 39, was charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking when he appeared before Magistrate Leron Daley at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It was alleged that on November 17, Jealall introduced 70 grammes of cannabis into the Camp Street Prison.

Jealall pleaded not guilty when the charge was read against him.

Attorney-at-Law Paul Fung-a-Fat told the magistrate that the drug was not found on Jealall person and he asked her to be lenient by granting bail to his client because he had three young children to care for. He also told the court that his client was a former High Court marshal. (An earlier version of this story had said that Jealall was presently a marshal.)

Jealall was remanded to prison and the case will be called again in Court Three on January 2.
