The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) yesterday announced that it has launched its online feature for the monitoring of the status of Customs Declarations by importers or their brokers.
In a release, the GRA said that the web-based feature was implemented on December 17, 2012 and will now save importers from taking unnecessary trips to Customs House once they have internet access.
Importers usually spend a lot of time running back and forth to Customs House to check on the status of their declarations and this new feature would likely be welcomed by them and the private sector.
Commissioner-General of the GRA, Khurshid Sattaur noted in the release that the feature will enable importers to plan around the three-day maximum processing time.
He added that it will also enable them to respond quickly in
instances where documents are queried or a consignment is flagged for enforcement check.
Similar to the Kiosk system (Customs Ticker) at Customs House and the Wharves, the GRA said that the Importer, Exporter or their Broker would be required to select the Regime, the year, enter the Declaration number and the Taxpayer’s Identification Number (TIN) and they will be
able to view the Current Status of the declaration after hitting the search button.
GRA said that the system would be updated on a regular basis covering a period of fourteen days.
Hence, for declarations lodged more than fourteen days prior, taxpayers would be required to use the Kiosk System at Customs House on Main Street or the Wharves, which has an archive.
The GRA is urging importers and their Brokers to take advantage of this new feature by visiting its website www.gra.gov.gy and clicking on the link under the heading “New” in the Newsflash box, which will take them to the “lookup Customs Declaration Status” page.
