Even as the Cayman Islands Police Department continues to search for the Guyanese man who has been missing there since last week, his mother yesterday pleaded with the public to come forward with any information which may help find him.
Hemerson Raymond Acosta, 31, has been missing since Tuesday, December 11, after he left the home of a friend with whom he had been staying, his mother, Deborah Thompson, told Stabroek News yesterday.
According to reports, Acosta had arrived two days earlier and went to stay with a male friend with whom he normally stays in the Newlands area. However, he had complained of feeling sick and was vomiting.
Thompson is asking that anyone who has any information to email the Cayman Islands police, who have set up an email account specifically to garner information pertaining to the missing man. The email address is HemersonGonzalez@hotmail.com.
Although efforts to contact acting Commissioner of Police Leroy Brumell for comment were futile, a police source told this newspaper that Acosta has a police record here and is known to the police.
The Caymanian Compass newspaper has reported Acosta’s name as Raymond Gonzalez and stated that with each passing day the police there were becoming increasingly concerned about the man, noting that there has been no confirmed sighting of him since his disappearance.
According to the report, the man had been staying with a male friend in Canyon Dawn Drive in the Spotts/Newland area. His friend told police that he told him he was ill and suffering from severe vomiting when he left the house.
Since leaving his friend’s residence, Acosta has not been in contact with friends or sought medical attention as checks at hospitals and health facilities have turned up nothing, the report noted.
The missing man is described as 5ft 8in tall, with a dark brown complexion and curly black hair which is about 1-1.5in in length. He weighs about 180 lbs and has a tattoo of a compass on his left forearm and writing tattooed on the inside of his left wrist.
When last seen, he was wearing brown jean shorts, a t-shirt and blue low cut cloth shoes, the report added.
According to the report, Cayman Police Superintendent Marlon Bodden is urging anyone who has seen Gonzalez or who is aware of his current whereabouts to contact the police immediately to ensure that he receives urgent welfare and medical attention.
