The drugs were found in David’s possession on Thursday at the Guyana Post Office. CANU special prosecutor Oswald Massiah related to the court that on the date in question, around 2:30pm, David visited the post office to mail a package addressed to his mother. It was searched by a Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) officer, who found that one of the books was strangely heavy and examined it closely, leading to the       discovery of a white plastic bag in which they found a white substance that was later determined to be cocaine.

Massiah added that David was subsequently arrested and taken to CANU headquarters, where he confessed, saying “Is a little thing ah try, ah buy the cocaine for me friend cause ah struggling real hard.”

David told the court, “I’m really asking that you help me out, ah went in de bush cause a man tell me they would pay me $250,000 but when I come out they only pay me $60,000 and ah spend $40,000 at Balwant Singh plus one of ma children dead.”
Magistrate Daley sentenced him to three years imprisonment and ordered him to pay a $30,000 fine.
