The suspect in the Stabroek Market stabbing to death of Kelvin Canes was arrested yesterday and is in police custody.
Crime Chief Seelall Persaud confirmed that the suspect was arrested based on information received by the police and that the stabbing stemmed from an old grievance the two men had.
Kelvin Canes, 41, called ‘Reds,’ of South Ruimveldt, died on his way to the Georgetown Hospital after he was stabbed with a knife as he was sitting at a stall at the market. His attacker, whose name was given as ‘Joshua’, fled the scene with the murder weapon.
An eyewitness had said he saw a man and Canes punching each other. The eyewitness added that he thought that the man’s attacker was punching him and Canes was defending himself. He said, “I din know that is stab the man stabbing he. Is till when the man run way with the knife in he hand and I see Reds run and then fall down that I know the man stab he.”
