Woman charged with stabbing peacemaker

A woman was yesterday accused of stabbing a man who tried to intervene in a row between her and the father of her child.

Onika Thomas, of 102 Middle Walk, Buxton, pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawfully wounding Gary Prince, when she appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.  It is alleged that she committed the wounding on December 18, around 7:45pm, on Hadfield Street. Police Prosecutor Venetta Pindar told the court that Thomas and her “child father” were having an argument and Prince intervened, at which point Thomas stabbed him. Prince was taken to the hospital while the matter was then reported to the Brickdam Police Station, leading to the woman’s arrest.

Thomas was placed on $30,000 bail as Pindar had no objections to her being granted her pre-trial liberty.

Their matter was transferred to Court 10, for January 15, 2013.
