Co-Director of the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation Aubrey `Shanghai’ Major said yesterday that contrary to a radio advertisement which is being played dancehall mega star Anthony Davis better known as `Beenie Man’ will not be at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground on January 1.
According to Major, the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation has booked the GFC ground on New Year’s Day to stage the final of the Schools’ Chico Under-13 championships which is expected to begin at 4pm.
Major said that the advertisement had created some amount of concern especially among parents and teachers associated with the tournament.
“Some parents are concerned over the fact that it has been advertised that Beenie Man will be at the Georgetown Football Club ground on New Year’s Day and they don’t want their kids to be there, ” Major told Stabroek Sport last evening.
He added that Secretary of the Georgetown Football Club Ivor O’ Brien had written the Georgetown Football Association on the issue and when contacted O’Brien confirmed that the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation had in fact booked the GFC ground for January 1.
When contacted president of the GFA, Vernon Burnett said he had not seen a letter from the secretary of the GFC regarding the issue.
He explained that to the best of his knowledge the GFA had booked the GFC ground for their tournaments months ago and was of the opinion that they would have been able to have the use of the facility on January 1.
“In April of this year we booked all of our playing days at the GFC ground to utilize the ground for the playing of our football tournaments inclusive of New Year’s Day. We also paid an advance to the GFC for those dates.
“When we went to confirm the dates we were told that the club had given the New Year’ Day date to the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation. We did not receive an acceptable explanation when we queried the matter. However, we had already done the advertisements for New Year’s Day since we though we would have had the use of the facility on that day,” Burnett explained.
He told Stabroek Sport that he would move immediately to have the ad replaced.
