Health Minister Dr. Bheri Ramsaran on Thursday presented a wheelchair to Royston Smith, a double-amputee, who represented Guyana at the Paralympics, a release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said.
Smith, who lost his legs after being hit down several years ago, previously had a wheelchair which ceased working after being in constant use. The new wheelchair will enable him to be more independent and mobile.
Over the years the Ministry of Health has been receiving wheelchairs and other equipment from charitable organisations to be distributed to persons in need, the release said.
