Christmas cheer in memory of Ronald Waddell: The annual Ronald Waddell (inset) Children’s Christmas Cheer was held yesterday at the Friendship Primary School, East Coast Demerara and over 200 hundred children were feted.
The political activist was 57 years old at the time he was gunned down outside his home in January of 2006.
Organizers of the event teamed up with the Region 4 Administration and villagers of Buxton to treat the children to caroling, storytelling, meals and toys all in memory of Waddell who they said will forever be remembered for his contributions to the village.
“This was the brainchild of Cyrus Boyce who lived in the Buxton Village during the period … we target mainly the children of the young men who died during the 2002-2006 period … We don’t discriminate don’t check on which side they were on when they died only the fact that the children” have only one parent, said one of the organizers, Barrington Braithwaite.
He added that this year the number of beneficiaries increased and included East Coast of Demerara children who would have heard about the event and attended.
