A man who drowned at a Linden-Soesdyke Highway Creek on Sunday afternoon, and was known only as “Uncle Deo” was up to press time yesterday still a John Doe at the Lyken Funeral Home, Norton Street, Georgetown.
An eyewitness who was at the creek at the time of the drowning told Stabroek News that the man, of East Indian descent and who appeared to be middle-aged, seemed drunk and went for a swim clad in his jeans.
Police sources said that from investigations the man went to the creek alone.
After he disappeared under water, three persons went to search for him and pulled him out but by that time he had already appeared to be dead.
A nurse who was at the scene attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) but her efforts failed.
He was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police took statements from persons who were present at the scene and an investigation is ongoing.
