The police had their work cut out for them yesterday following a spate of robberies during which $8.5M was snatched.
The police say they are probing an armed robbery that occurred at about 1315h yesterday at Providence, EBD, during which Bibi Singh, 57 years, was shot and injured to her right thigh.
Police investigations revealed that Singh and her husband Harold Singh had returned home and she was remained in their motor vehicle while her husband went inside. During this time a motor car with two men inside drove up, and a man armed with a firearm exited and grabbed at a bag that was in Singh’s vehicle, police said. A scuffle ensued over the bag during which Bibi Singh was shot and the perpetrator took away the bag which contained $400,000 and escaped in the waiting motor car.
Bibi Singh was treated at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and sent away.
And at 1900h yesterday, police say that Wayne Porter, 26 years, of ‘B’ Field Squatting Area, Sophia; and Rayon Harrop, 23 years, of Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, were outside of a shop at ‘C’ Field, Sophia, when they were attacked by two men armed with handguns.
A scuffle ensued between the victims and the perpetrators during which Porter was shot to his left thigh. The armed men then took away an undisclosed sum of cash and a quantity of gold jewellery from the victims and escaped, police said.
Porter has been admitted to the GPHC for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, police are probing a report that at about 2010h yesterday, Christina Dinoon, 39 years, and her thirteen-year-old daughter were about to enter their home at Diamond Housing Scheme, EBD, when they were held up by two men armed with handguns.
Police say that the armed men took them into the home where they were both tied up, after which the men ransacked the house and took away $8.5M, a quantity of gold jewellery and a cell phone and fled.
