Michael Turner scored a tournament-high 28 points as Half Mile Bulls edged Amelia’s Ward Jets 51-49 when the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA)organized, Malta Supreme Christmas tournament continued Saturday night at the Mackenzie Sports Club hardcourt.
Turner, at one stage scored 20 straight points between halves.
The Bulls were ahead at the end of the first quarter 19-16 and at half time 27-23 before the Jets recovered and took the initiative in the third quarter which ended with them in front 45-43.
They, were, however unable to stop Turner and Travin Dryden, who chipped in with 12 crucial points.
For the Jets, pivot man Shane Webster netted 15 points and forwards Lawrence DaCosta got 12 and Ruel McKinnon added nine.
In the other game Kashif and Shanghai Kings defeated Victory Valley Royals 56-42.
The Kings took the lead at the end of the first quarter 10-7, led at half time 23-14, ended the third quarter 40-22 ahead before coasting to the win.
Omally Sampson led the Kings with 12 points; centre Jason Alonzo contributed eight and Marvin Hartman seven.
Forward Chris Williams made a return to the Royals with a top score of 13 points while Marlon Pollydore contributed 12 in the losing effort.
