The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) in collaboration with the Pan-American Health Organisation (PAHO), trained fifty-two volunteers from Regions 5 and 6, in a workshop on Disaster Risk Management, Health and Climate Change on December 15.
Through its Volunteer Corps, the CDC is seeking to decentralise and extend its mandate of disaster risk management across Guyana, a release from the CDC said.
Presentations were done on climate change and its impact on health and the environment, gender, disaster risk reduction, volunteerism and community mobilization in disaster risk management.
The Director General of the CDC, Colonel (retired) Chabilall Ramsarup and the Chairman, Region 6 (East Berbice/Corentyne) David Armogan addressed the participants urging them to understand the significance of disaster risk management and climate change. They were reminded of the nation’s gratitude for their volunteerism. The regional chairman also gave the commitment of the Regional Democratic Council’s support to further activities and the mandate of the CDC Volunteer Corps.
