Dear Editor,
Guyana should take note of the recent fatal shooting of some children and adults in the US by a lone gunman.
In the light of this, in our country a considerable period of amnesty should be given to persons in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The last amnesty many years ago, raked in a heap of guns of various kinds. From then to now, more people have acquired unlicensed firearms. There should be an amnesty exercise in every region, and the gold-mining areas in the interior, particularly where there are shouts and businesses flourishing, should be focused on.
Yours faithfully,
George Carrington
