Elton `The Bully’ Dharry says that despite his win over Ricardo Blackman of Barbados he is still hoping to engage Jamaican Rudolph Hedge to silence his critics.
Dharry made that disclosure to Stabroek Sports Friday night shortly after he defeated Blackman on the Night of Champions Card which he promoted along with Leon ‘Hurry Moore’ and Pearl Vodka.
“I really want to fight him. I still feel that a lot of people doubt me,” he told this newspaper.
According to Dharry, defeating Hedge would be the only thing that will silence those who accuse him of being afraid of the Jamaican.
“Fighting Hedge will not only build my career but silence people. Just shut them up. I don’t have a problem fighting Hedge and I never had a problem fighting him. It’s going to be war when I step in the ring. I don’t come to Guyana to play a ball game or to play hide or seek.”
Dharry, who said his last fight in Guyana was in April added:“I am not just coming to Guyana to beat-up fighters, I had enough of fighting Guyanese.
Many of them had said that they will beat me up, called me chicken but when I get here these fights don’t go past the second round, it don’t make any sense. And if you see me fight you would know that it is not true.”
Dharry’s encounter with Blackman ended in the second round after Dharry floored the Barbadian with a series of punches. The fight was stopped with Dharry losing one point for hitting Blackman while he was down in the second of his two knockdowns. Blackman was also decked in the first round.
The main bout between Clive Atwell and Revlon Lake saw Lake going down earlier than he did in his previous fight against the Wonder Kid.
Lake, who said he lost to Atwell in his previous fight because of his failure to prepare, had no excuse this time around.
With some two months of training prior to the fight, Lake was still not good enough as the fight ended in the third round with the Wonder Kid being declared the winner.
Boxed into a corner the Barbadian-based Lake absorbed several combinations to the body before the referee signalled the end of the fight.
“First of all, let me say thanks to God and the promoters for making this one happen again, along with my coaching team of Lennox Daniels, Terrence Poole, Dexter Patterson and Leon Moore. We always worked hard to come and give the fans our best,” Atwell said.
According to Atwell he stuck to his game plan and delivered on his promise.
“It’s all about applying what we worked on, while feeling him out during the first two rounds,” he added.
The Wonder Kid said he was both surprised and disappointed that Lake did not put up a real challenge.
“I worked on mixing up the punches, going from head to body and vice versa on several occasions,” he said candidly.
In the other three bouts, James Walcott defeated Kelsey George by a unanimous decision, just as he promised while Gladwin Dorway defeated Shawn Pile. Pile is known for spoiling the careers of young boxers, but Dorway proved otherwise with a second round knockout.
In the opening bout Troy Lewis despite his best efforts was knocked out by Mark Austin.
