LONDON, CMC – Resurgent Trinidadian striker Kenwyne Jones netted his third goal in four games while Barbadian international Emmerson Boyce scored his second of the new season, as they helped to carved out contrasting results for their respective clubs in England’s top flight here Saturday.
Jones’s first half strike enabled 10-man Stoke City to come from three 1-3 down to earn a share of the points in a 3-3 draw at home at the Britannica Stadium.
Boyce, meanwhile, found the nets early in the second half to spur embattled Wigan Athletic to a 3-0 romp over hapless Aston Villa.
Stoke are eighth on 29 points while Wigan are a point above the relegation zone.
In the West Midlands, Stoke were behind after ten minutes through Rickie Lambert’s close range finish but Jones equalised six minutes later, stylishly back-heeling Ryan Shotton’s cross.
He had earlier wasted a glorious opportunity in the tenth minute.
Jay Rodriguez’s 24th minute strike and Andy Wilkinson’s own goal in the 36th minute then put the visitors up 3-1 at half-time.
However, Matthew Upson pulled a goal back in the 67th before Cameron Jerome’s 90th minute volley completed the comeback.
At Villa Park, Spanish defender Ivan Ramis gave Wigan the lead after just three minutes, and two early second half goals sent the hosts to their third straight heavy defeat.
In the 52nd minute, Boyce showed a turn of speed to beat three defenders and slot home Ivorian Arouna Kone’s pass and four minutes later, Kone found the nets himself.
The 33-year-old last scored in a 2-1 defeat at Swansea last October.
