HAMILTON, Bermuda, CMC — David Moore is to step down as national cricket coach and Stephen Outerbridge has been appointed national team captain, the Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) announced yesterday.
Moore, a 47-year-old Australian who was West Indies coach in 2007, will quit when his contract expires on March 1 next year.
The BCB said Moore would be leaving Bermuda for personal and family reasons at the end of his contract. Moore took over from Trinidadian Gus Logie, who stood down two years ago.
Former Bermuda captain Arnold Manders will assume the position of national head coach on an interim basis until May 6 when the World Cricket League Division 3 tournament is completed.
Clevie Wade will continue as national assistant coach, while Moore will provide guidance and support to the national team support staff to ensure a seamless transition for the players, the BCB said.
“David has had a major impact on both our national senior squad and our development programmes and leaves big shoes to fill” said BCB president Lloyd Fray.
“ The evolution of the BCB junior elite programmes into the current National Academy set-up has created a world-class preparation platform for our young men and women.”
The appointment of left-handed batsman Outerbridge to replace David Hemp, who resigned as captain last month, was a unanimous decision, the BCB said.
“The executive unanimously endorsed the appointment of Stephen as the captain of our national senior team” Fray said.
“Under the captaincy criteria he was the outstanding candidate and possesses many qualities that we recognize are important for the leader of our senior team.”
