Quason Paul, the man shot in the leg on Christmas morning while police were trying to apprehend bandits, is expected to fully recover from his injury within the next six months.
Paul, speaking from his hospital bed in the Male Surgical Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital, told Stabroek News on Monday that doctors had discharged him from the hospital but he requested to stay due to fact that he still has a steel structure in his left leg.
He explained that the reason for the structure is because of the fact that he suffered a shattered bone.
Paul, who says that all he wants is to be able to walk again, was told that it could take him six months to be removed and for him to walk by himself without assistance.
When asked if he would be found on the road again on Christmas morning, Paul said, “Sorry to say but hell no. I have learned a valuable lesson and I am going to stay home from now.”
In a statement, police had said that three men, including one with a gun, robbed Khazram Lashley, Pradin Yadev and Mohit Vaswani, of $33,000 and a cell phone. Soon after Lashley and Paul, who was in the vicinity, chased behind them and the bandit discharged a number of rounds, hitting Paul in his right leg.
Paul has since disputed the police account, explaining that he was shot by a policeman during the pursuit of the bandits. The police force, however, has maintained that he was shot by one of the bandits.
