A soldier who allegedly pelted a man, suspected of stealing his sister’s cellular phone, with a brick, injuring him in the process was yesterday granted $20,000 bail when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on December 30, 2012, Clint Mc Kenzie, 18, of Lot 278 Crane Housing Scheme, West Bank Demerara, unlawfully assaulted Chad Layne so as to cause him actual bodily harm. He pleaded not guilty to the assault charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Sueanna Lovell.
Police Prosecutor Alexis David-Hosannah told the court that on the day in question Layne was accused of stealing Mc Kenzie’s sister’s cellular phone.
According to David-Hosannah, Mc Kenzie approached Layne and questioned him about the cellular phone.
She said Layne proceeded to walk away, when Mc Kenzie ran behind him with a brick and pelted him with it, causing him to sustain injuries to his head.
The prosecution did not object to bail.
Bail was set in the sum of $20,000.
The matter continues on January 9 at the Georgetown Magistrates’ court.
