Dear Editor,
I just read your Sunday editorial ‘2013 anniversaries‘ (thanks to Enrico Woolford who posted it on his Facebook page).
I wish to point out the following:
On the January 12, a mere 10 days from now, we would be marking 160 years of Chinese immigration to Guyana. The first Chinese arrived on the shores of Guyana on January 12, 1853 aboard the SS Glentanner which sailed from from Amoy.
On January 12, 1986, the Guyana Commemoration Commission, in association with the Guyana-China Friendship Society erected a plaque to mark the 133rd anniversary. The plaque still sits on a clay-brick pedestal in the compound of the Windsor Forest Primary School.
Yours faithfully,
Alex Graham
