Ohhh… You’re broke? I know that feeling. Head hurts? Same here. Too tired? Hahahaha! Who cares?!
The holidays are over and you still got work to do! Rub that magical feeling off before your boss yells it off.
I laugh at people who say “cost of living is high”. Let me tell you something, cost of living can’t be high when Guyanese invest so much in the parties and the holidays and mega concerts and festivities. It would appear that the ‘cost of comfort’ is more important than the cost of living.
Some people would have eaten bread and butter for a month just to go to Unforgettable 2… wait, forget that; I mean Kashif & Shanghai & Mavado or GFA & Banks & Beenie Man, Woiii!
Some of you would have spent a bundle on the holiday gifts – no problem, your money, not mine. But the next day you would spend out the lil remittances too? What then?
Don’t get me started with the Big Yard and Old Year’s Night parties. As long as you are partying into the next year, you are happy.
Well it is next year so GET BACK TO WORK! Save up your lil money for Mashramani, you can’t go into February 23 with your mouth dry, because you know that is a next set of concerts and festivities. You don’t go out to celebrate your country’s Republican status, you just know it is a party and you got to look fine and feel divine.
It is get up, bathe, breakfast, traffic, work, work, work, traffic, bathe, dinner, sleep all over again. I am sorry for people juggling university and a full-time job. My Lord!
But wait, we can’t leave out the lil children dem. I’m talking ‘bout the ones in high school. They want to send their parents’ money on party; leave the house at 15 – 16 to go out on the streets with big men and big women where they get on bad… GET BACK TO SCHOOLWORK!
Imagine we ‘progress’ another new year with No Child Left Behind… and they take full advantage of it, no need for doing assignments during the holiday, whether you do your work for the new term or not is no problem because you automatically pass – yippee!
Back to the grownups! You thought there would be a New Year’s promotion? HA! Good luck with that when working hard is not in your books. When you want to carry a BIG name, know someone or be ‘scampish’.
You want a ‘top up?’ well work hard for it! Because nothing is free really. Times hard in the US so don’t be surprised when your family overseas only sends couple small change.
Get back to reality. The holidays are over and the brown days are here again. What will you be working for?
Nothing really changed because we switched calendars. NOW GET BACK TO WORK, GUYANA!
