Dear Editor,
The GWI Divisional Manager made it clear to the residents near the Number 53 sport complex that there were no plans for a well at Number 53 Village.
What is the reason for this? Is it because the majority of voters from that village voted against the PPP in the 2011 elections? The preamble to the Guyana Constitution states “We the people of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana … pledge to uphold the principles of freedom, equality and democracy and all other fundamental human rights.” It is not a human right to have access to potable water, and not a privilege?
I call on the Regional Democratic Councillors from the AFC and APNU in Region 6 to put pressure on the PPP in the region so the contract can be signed for the people of Number 53 village to get potable water in their yards. Water is life and people must not be treated like second class citizens.
I want to take this opportunity to salute Dr Veersammy Ramayya who is highlighting these little issues that continue to keep the small man down, compliments of the uncaring Ramotar regime. I think this situation demands a visit from the Leader of the AFC who hails from a nearby village to offer his support and love to these people, since next time around we, the young people of Numbers 52 to 59 villages are voting AFC.
Yours faithfully,
Christopher Samuels
