Dear Editor,
I read the report in your Christmas edition about the tragedy in the Pomeroon River on the 18th of December, captioned ‘Mother wants justice’ (not revenge).
If such tragedy with the death of six happens in India it will go down as a minor affair owing to the size of India’s population, but in the case of Guyana it is a horrible tragedy that needs a proper investigation even if it means bringing in an expert from Caricom.
We need to know whose poor captaincy caused the mishap, because as Radio Demerara used to say, accidents don’t just happen, they are caused. Seeing that the Regional Chairman was in one of the boats involved in the collision, his evidence will be most vital.
Yours faithfully,
W P George
