Dear Editor,
Whilst visiting Guyana, I heard the road to Mara will be completed this year. This is good news indeed.
When this stretch of road is ready, the rules of the road should be observed by motorists. Besides the posted speed limits there should be speed bumps in certain areas – for example, where schools are located.
This may help in reducing accidents and saving lives, as vehicles will have to slow down upon approaching the speed bumps.
Since there is a lack of electricity in the area (past Light Town) solar power would be good to illuminate the turns (they should be secured to avoid theft as was the case last year) and the road should have good reflectors to guide drivers at night. Strategically placed arrows should be installed to warn drivers of upcoming turns.
The road will benefit everyone and be a big help for those who have to reach the NA hospital in an emergency.
It takes 90 minutes to get from NA to Plegtanker with the current road, so having a new road this year will greatly improve the situation.
Yours faithfully,
M Drepaul
