A man found dead on the No.68 Village, Corentyne road on Monday has been identified as cane harvester, Hemchand Singh of Lot 12 Dad Street , Princeton, # 76 Corentyne, Berbice.
The man was yesterday identified by one of his family members at the Skeldon Hospital mortuary. Singh, 35, was also a carpenter.
When Stabroek News visited the man’s home yesterday, Singh’s sister –in-law Shameeza (only name given) related that Monday was Singh’s birthday, and he had left home around 5:30 pm and did not return. She said for the whole of Tuesday she and neighbours searched for him. She said that whilst they were searching, residents in the area told of a man who was found on the # 68 public road.
They went to the Skeldon Hospital on Tuesday night to check for the body but were told they had return yesterday along with a police officer.
She said when they checked yesterday morning they were able to identify the man as their relative.
