Dear Editor,
Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), the nation’s supplier of water and sanitation services, wishes to address the concerns of Mr Christopher Samuels, printed in the Tuesday January 8, 2013 edition of Stabroek News, captioned ‘Number 53 Village needs potable water.’
The headline indicated that Number 53 Village is without potable water; this statement is erroneous. GWI’s Berbice team can confirm that customers of the village enjoy treated water from the state-of-the-art Number 56 Village Water Treatment Plant at an adequate level. Divisional Operations Manager Jim Ramjug has indicated that there have been no reports from customers in the village of service disruptions.
Mr Samuels indicated that GWI management made statements about the creation of a well within the Number 53 Village; this statement is also false, since no plans of that nature were made by the utility. Instead, the water provided to customers of Number 53 Village will be further enhanced following the commissioning of the Number 47 Village Well Station in 2013. It is expected that this new well station will improve the current levels of service received by customers of the Number 53 Village and other surrounding communities.
The improvement of our existing service and enhancing the quality of water which GWI provides remain at the forefront of the company’s objectives.
Customers with questions about GWI’s services can contact GWI’s Customer Services Call Centre on 227-8701, email customercallcentre@gwi.gy or post via GWI’s Facebook fan-page at www.facebook.com/everydropcountsgy
