Former West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon hit an impressive century as Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) Berbice closed the second day of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) senior four-day Inter-County match against the President’s XI at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground on 267-3.
The President’s XI had earlier been bowled out for 182 on day one.
Chattergoon and fellow opener Richard Ramdeen built a solid opening stand of 87 runs on a flat DCC pitch.
Ramdeen hit five fours and two sixes before he was leg before wicket to Collis Butts for 47.
Chattergoon and Assad Fudadin then took the score to 163 with a second wicket stand of 76. Fudadin, after hitting two fours, was bowled by Raj Nanan but Chattergoon soon brought up his half century with a boundary off the same bowler.
His half century took 114 balls and came up in 145 minutes. Chattergoon dominated a third-wicket stand of 93 with Gajanand Singh. The left-hander from Albion eventually reached his century off 313 balls before he was caught off Butts for 114 an innings which contained 11 fours and four sixes. Singh, another left-hander, stroked five fours and ended the day on an unbeaten 57 which came off 101 deliveries. With him is Anthony D’Andrade not out on two. Butts has so far taken 2-53 from 39 overs.
At Everest, Demerara resumed on their overnight score of 103-3 with Vishal Singh not out on three and Chanderpaul Hemraj not out six.
They took the total to 132 before they were dismissed in quick succession to leave their team in a spot of bother on 132-5. However, Zaheer Mohamed and Joseph Perry featured in a sixth-wicket stand of 112 before Perry fell after lunch for 26 at 244. Left-arm spinner Herry Green trapped Kellon Carmichael for a duck and later got Mohamed for 76 as Demerara lost two more wickets without addition to the score. Mohamed’s innings contained seven fours and two maximums. Adams wrapped up the innings by removing Andre Stoll (07) and Totaram Bishun (00) as Demerara were bowled out just after tea for 259 in 106.4 overs.
Amir Khan was left not out on five. Adams, who bowled with good control and variation, finished with 6-63 while Green had 2-59 and Royan Federicks 2-34.
Behind by 92, Essequibo in their second innings, lost Royan Fredericks, caught off Carmichael for 10 but Norman Fredericks and Dillon Heyliger batted patiently to see them safely through to stumps without further loss.
At the close Essequibo were 72-1 after 23 overs with Norman Fredericks unbeaten on 33 with three fours and Heyliger not out on 25, an innings which has so far included five boundaries.
