Guyana’s light heavyweight champion Kwesi ‘Lightning Struck Assassin’ Jones and former CABOFE cruiserweight champion Shawn ‘The Sniper’ Cox will headline the 27th edition of the Guyana Fight Night Pro Am card set for January 25 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
According to executives of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control Jones will face the Barbadian knockout specialist in a 10-round catch weight bout.
The Barbadian ‘Sniper’ who has taken all four Guyanese opponents he has faced within the distance, most notably a first round demolition of former world cruiserweight champion, Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite, in February, has a record of 16 wins and two losses. Fifteen of his wins are via the KO route.
The 38-year-old south paw has knockout wins over locals Kurt Bess, Anthony Augustin and Leon Gilkes. He kayoed Bess and Augustin in the first round and took out Gilkes in the second round.
Jones who is also a renowned knockout specialist has a record of 10 wins and two losses. Six of his wins ended within the distance.
The card will also feature knockout artist Gladwin Dorway coming up against Mark Austin for the national junior middleweight title. Austin has eight wins, five losses and a draw in his three-year professional career while the undefeated Dorway has four wins, all by knockout since making his debut last June.
In addition, young and upcoming pugilist Richard Williamson will match gloves with his former trainer, Orlan ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers in a six-round super bantamweight contest. Rogers, who was last beaten by three-division champion Clive ‘The Punisher’ Atwell in October, has a record of five wins, 14 losses and a no contest.
Williamson, coming off of a scintillating knockout win over Rudolph Fraser in November, has two wins in his three bouts. His lone blemish is a disqualification for hitting Charlton Skeete while on the canvas. Skeete is also expected to be in action on January 25 against Dillon Allicock in a four-round match in the super bantamweight category.
The other boxers on the amateur segment of the card will be announced later.
The event is being sponsored by Digicel, Giftland OfficeMax, Courts, Banks DIH Limited, NCN and Ansa McAl.
Bell time is 8pm and admission costs $1,000.
