Demerara yesterday defeated Essequibo by eight wickets inside three days in their Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Inter County four-day match at the Everest Cricket Club ground.
Scores in the match: Essequibo 167 all out and 187; Demerara 252 and 95 -2.
Essequbio resumed yesterday on 72-1 with Dillon Heyliger and Norman Fredericks at the crease. The pair added a further 11 runs before Fredericks was bowled by Andre Stoll for 32. Ricardo Adams hit two sixes in 14 before he was dismissed by Amir Khan with the score on 115 and Essequibo continued their trend of losing wickets in bundles as Herry Greene and Wayne Osbourne were removed by Khan and Kellon Carmichael with just one run added to the score.
Essequibo lost three more wickets that of Heyliger, Anthony Adams and Kenzo Baksh in the space of four runs. Heyliger was dismissed by left arm-spinner Totaram Bishun for 57 an innings that included eight boundaries while first innings top scorer Vijay Surujpaul, fell for 54, a knock which included six fours and two sixes.
Surujpaul, batting at number seven, added 37 runs for the last wicket with Rupesh Motilall who was unbeaten on two at the end.
Bishun, 3 for 48, Khan, 3 for 61, Carmichael, 2 for 24 and Andre Stoll 1 for 31 were the wicket takers.
Chasing 95 for victory Demerara lost Shemroy Barrington, lbw to Anthony Adams for 10 while Chanderpaul Hemraj was dismissed by Herry Green.
Robin Bacchus and Vishual Singh sealed the match with an unbroken 63 run partnership for the third wicket as Demerara needed 25.2 overs. Robin Bacchus scored an unbeaten 56 with six fours while Singh made 21 with a solitary boundary. Greene finished with 1 for 10 and Adams 1 for 30.
