The defence is expected to cross-examine the second witness who gave evidence against Arif Mohammed and his father Latiff Mohammed on Friday, when the trial into the murder of Jairam Balgobin continues on Thursday before Justice Navindra Singh in the High Court.
Narad Balgobin, the victim’s brother, and a juvenile both testified on Friday but defence counsel Peter Hugh declined to cross-examine Balgobin at that time.
The juvenile testified that he and three friends had been sitting in front of a neighbour’s yard when Arif Mohammed approached them with a bloody shirt and told them that he had just killed a man.
Prosecutor Konyo Thompson, who is leading the state’s case in association with Dhanika Singh, told the court that she was expecting three persons to give evidence but if they failed to appear the state would close its case.
She also told the court that the state’s last witness would be government pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh after which she will close the case.
The Mohammeds stand accused of the March 4, 2008 murder of Balgobin at Success, East Coast Demerara.
