Earl Fraser, accused of threatening and assaulting his brother-in-law over his alleged failure to clean their surroundings, was on Tuesday refused bail when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on January 14, at Lamaha Springs, Georgetown, Fraser, 27, used threatening language to Sherwin Thomas and assaulted him, thereby resulting in a breach of the peace.
Fraser, a vendor of Lot 36 Lamaha Springs, pleaded not guilty to the charges when Magistrate Judy Latchman read them.
In his defence, Fraser told the court that he and Thomas live at same residence but Thomas does not clean the surroundings of the home nor does he respect it. He said they argued and a scuffle ensued and later in the day police arrested him.
Meanwhile, Thomas told the court that Fraser has harassed him since he moved into the premises with Fraser’s sister. He then said that he is in the process of making arrangements to leave the house soon.
The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the parties currently reside at the same address and there is a likelihood that future arguments may occur.
After listening to submissions, the magistrate agreed with the prosecutions’ assertions and denied bail.
Fraser was ordered to return to court on February 27.
