The Georgetown Football Association (GFA), on the final night of the Banks Beer/GFA Cup, had gate receipts of over $20 million, according to President Vernon Burnett.
In an invited comment to Stabroek Sport after a General Council meeting at the Sleepin International Hotel Brickdam, Burnett said, “We have made over $20 million in gate receipts on the final day which is one of the ball park figures that I can give to you. We also have expenses in the vicinity of $18 million and more. I cannot give you a final position. I will not attempt to give you a final position, but I am very confident that our audited financial statement will spell out all the details and anyone would be able to peruse it and have a better idea as to how viable the association is financially.”
Asked what the gate receipts were for the other days, Burnett said he did not have those details and reiterated that the audited financial statement will contain those details.
“I know the semifinals were the next in line, but I cannot give the exact figure in terms of expenses and all of that. I don’t want to speculate. I don’t have all the documentation and all those questions will be better answered with the audited financial statement.”
To say that the association made a handsome profit from the tournament, Burnett said “would be a relative term as I don’t know what a handsome profit entails. But I am sure that once all expenses are paid out… The GFA will [have] something in its coffers to start its 2013/2014 year with.”
The audited financial statement would be available today, according to Treasurer Dexter Schultz.
