Medium pacer Mark Tyrell bagged 6-14 to help Essequibo secure first innings points against GT&T Berbice on the third day of their Guyana Cricket Board Inter County cricket match at the Wales Community Development Centre ground yesterday.
Replying to Essequibo’s first innings score of 140 all out in 46.5 overs Berbice crumbled to 90 all out in 47 overs with Anthony Adams supporting Tyrell with 2-35.
Resuming the third day of the rain-affected fixture on 123-9, Essequibo added a further 17 runs before being dismissed for 140.
Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai was the leading wicket taker with 4-30 while off spinner Eon Hooper took 2-23 and pacer Clinton Pestano, 3 for 39.
In reply, the Berbicians were shocked by an incisive spell from Tyrell, the former national U-19 seamer.
His spell of 6 for 14 from 11 overs helped dismantle Berbice for 90 all out in 47 overs.
Tyrell prized out the wickets opener Sewnarine Chattergoon, Gajanand Singh, Eon Hooper and Jason Sinclair notching up his first five-wicket haul at the Inter County level by bowling Clinton Pestano.
He then completed his six wicket haul by having Keon Joseph lbw.
The Berbicians struggled against the spirited Essequibo fight back and found the going much tougher against the Cinderella County team after posting a score in excess of 400 runs against the President’s XI. Of the four batsmen to reach double figures, Delbert Hicks hit two sixes in 29, and Jason Sinclair made 17.
Supporting Tyrell and Adams were Kemo Paul, 1-10 off six overs and Herry Greene 1-3 off four overs.
