The Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB) has received complaints from members of the public about the quality of white rice and parboiled rice and is seeking a meeting with millers on the matter.
In an advertisement in yesterday’s Guyana Chronicle, the GRDB notified millers and toll millers that it had received complaints and was acting on them.
It said that some of the concerns related even to packaged rice and as a result the board would be strengthening the grading and certifying of rice being sold locally.
It was therefore seeking consultations with millers and a series of meetings has been scheduled.
The first is set for today at the GRDB Boardroom, Anna Regina, Region Two at 9.30 am. Another is scheduled for the RPA Seed Facility in Region Three (West Demerara/Essequibo Islands) at 9.30 am on January 22. One will be held for Regions 4&5 at the GRDB facility at Burma on January 22 at 2 pm and the other in Region Six at Countryside Cinema on January 23rd at 10 am.
