Two men were on Sunday evening pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre after the car they were travelling in lost control and toppled numerous times at the Linden/Soesdyke Highway.
Dead are Saphraz Ali, 33, of Lot 63 Sarah Johanna, East Bank Demerara and Joel Mohammed, 50, of Dora, Linden/Soesdyke Highway.
Police said that about 20:30 hrs on Sunday, at the Long Creek Public Road, Ali was driving his motor car HB 6611 when he reportedly lost control. The car toppled several times before it came to a stop in the corner.
Ali and Mohamed were both rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where they later succumbed to their injuries.
When Stabroek News visited the home of Ali, relatives and friends were gathered preparing for a wake, while his wife Cheryl-Ann Ali, who is five months pregnant with the couple’s third child was inconsolable.
Ali’s sister, Zubeda Ali, said she received a call from a cousin around 8.30 pm on Sunday, inquiring if Ali had been involved in an accident. She said she was unaware up until then, so she called her brother’s phone and another cousin answered and confirmed her suspicion.
Zubeda Ali said she rushed to the crash site where she saw her brother in the back seat of his vehicle. She said the other occupant was not in the vehicle and she believes
