Dear Editor,
It is over a year now since the new government came into office. For some reason or other President Ramotar failed to appoint a Minister of Trade and Tourism and the public chivalrously tolerated this.
But now that tolerance has evaporated. The failure to appoint a Minister of Trade and Tourism has had many negative effects for the PPP, the government and the public, one of the most obvious being that the President and his government have telegraphed to the public and the world that they have no serious interest in tourism, trade and consumers. The private sector, tourism and consumer people as well as the public are disturbed and very critical. The President must appoint a Minister of Trade and Tourism. The opposition has shown restraint so far in not speaking out on this matter.
Yours faithfully,
Harold K Jameson
