The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) completed a dominant victory over Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) when the Hadi’s World Incorporated/City Mall first division two-day competition resumed last weekend at Camp Ayanganna.
GDF, batting first, scored 351/7 declared then dismissed GYO for 66 and 146 to lose by an innings and 139 runs.
GDF owed their large total thanks mainly to a century (101) from Travis Blyden while pacer Trevon Garraway and skipper Paul Castello compiled contrasting half centuries.
The declaration paid dividends as GYO batted a total of 75.1 overs on day two en route to losing 19 wickets in one day.
They had ended the first day on 29/1 in reply but collapsed to 66 all out and following on 285 runs behind, fell for 146 in their second innings to lose by an innings and 139 runs.
Fenton Persaud top scored with 16 in the GYO first innings which epitomized his team’s struggles to score against an experienced bowling attack, while there were also three run outs. Nakeitho Nestor mopped up the tail to take 2-7, while Jeremiah Harris (2-12) and Garraway (2-35) were the early wicket-takers.
Following on, the GYO opening pair of S Himraj and Loakesh Reid put on 47 for the first wicket before both batsmen fell with the score on 47.
Reid was dismissed by Harris for 14 and Himraj by Garraway for 25. Only Fenton Persaud offered resistance thereafter with 45 an innings which included six fours and one six. GYO batted a total of 53.1 overs in their second innings. Castello was frugal in taking 3-25 in 18.1 overs while Harris took 2-20 and left arm spinner Dennis Legay 2-23.
