In its Youman Nabi message, the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana yesterday stressed the principle of equality.
“It is he who sent amongst you the unlettered Messenger from among themselves to rehearse to them his signs, to sanctify them and to instruct them in scripture and wisdom although they had been before, in manifest error as well as to confer all the benefits on those who have not joined them, and he is exalted in Might, Wise”, it quoted the Quran as saying.
The world has had its share of great personalities. Prophet Muhammad was a man who perfected humanity yet was perfectly human. His striving was for the sole purpose of uniting mankind for the worship of One God on the coded of moral excellence, the CIOG said. Even after his death, he continues to inspire faith in more than one billion men and women, it added.
The principle of the equality of mankind has been preached by all great religions but the last prophet put it into actual practice and achieved the greatest success, the CIOG said.
The word ‘Islam’ means ‘submission’ (to the will of God) and is related to the word ‘salaam’ (the daily greeting of Muslims) meaning peace. Nothing in the teaching of the Prophet or his life represents anything other than peace.
He is described in the Quran as ‘Mercy for the Worlds’. And he lived up to this title showing compassion to Muslims and non-Muslims, friends and foes, humans and animals alike.
