Dance instructor Rayon Baird was shot to his side as two men attempted to rob him of his two expensive smartphones last evening.
Baird, 24, of Lot 10 East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme was shot to his right side as he was leaving the Sophia area, where he has been teaching dance in the evenings to a group in preparation for upcoming Mashramani celebrations.
He was rushed by public- spirited persons to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he remains a patient nursing a single gunshot wound to his side. His condition up to press time this morning was stable.
At the hospital last evening, a close friend of Baird’s family rushed over and could be seen trying to make contact with his relatives.
A relative of his told Stabroek News that Baird had been shot even as he handed over his two mobile phones, a Samsung Galaxy S3 and a BlackBerry, to the robbers. In the process, one of the phones was shattered into pieces by the bullet.
The gunmen made good their escape on the bicycle they were riding.
