National T20 all rounder Steven Jacobs will be in action today and tomorrow for Malteenoes in the key clash against the Guyana Defence Force as the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Hadi’s first division competition continues.
Malteenoes are the defending two day first division champions and they will oppose GDF at Camp Ayanganna.
National player Shemroy Barrington, who represented GDF last year, has returned to his old club Malteenoes and will represent them along with national all-rounder Steven Jacobs.
Malteenoes will be without the services of seamer Kellon Carmichael who is in Trinidad to participate in their division-one domestic competition.
GDF skipper Paul Castello has been in form with both bat and ball and will have for support Travis Blyden, who scored a century last weekend, while pacer Trevon Garraway is expected to chip in with the bat to go along with his bowling effort. Also in the GDF’s ranks are fast bowler Gilford Moore, who has First Class experience as a representative of the Combined Campuses and Colleges team.
At Camp Road, Gandhi Youth Organisation will be hosted by a strong Everest side which includes national team selectees Rajendra Chandrika, Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Amir Khan. Also with national experience are Chanderpaul Hemraj and Zaheer Mohamed while Joseph Perry has been a regular feature in the Demerea team. Tagenarine Chanderpaul was formally a member of GYO and will be familiar with their bowling attack on his newly adopted home ground. GYO lost their last match against the GDF and will require a much improved performance to challenge a side of such experience.
In Queenstown, the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) will oppose the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC).
It will be the first occasion that the two sides will be competing since GCC beat the home team for the second year running in their own backyard to retain the 50 overs title last year.
Both DCC and GCC possess national experience with Christopher Barnwell, Trevon Griffith and Derwin Christian in DCC’s top order. GCC will have the left handed pair of Leon Johnson and Vishal Singh in their ranks. Robin Bacchus and Vishal Singh have been named on standby for the national team along with DCC’s Andre Stoll and the trio will aim for compelling performances to elevate their chances of a national team call up before the end of the Regional First Class season. The other match scheduled for this weekend will see Transport Sports Club (TSC) hosted by Police at Eve Leary.
