Malteenoes Sports Club notched up a six-wicket victory and the Police Sports Club won by the same margin on the second and final day’s play of the Georgetown Cricket Association/Hadi’s World Incorporated first division two-day competition yesterday.
In the other two matches, the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) drew with the Demerara Cricket Club and Tagenarine Chanderpaul reached another milestone as Everest Cricket Club drew with the Gandhi Youth Organization.
In Queenstown, GCC won the toss and batted first on day one scoring 261 in 65.5overs while DCC closed the day on 125 for 3 with Trevon Griffith not out 77.
DCC went on to declare their first innings yesterday on 256/9 in 71 overs to concede first innings points as one batsman arrived late.
Griffith fell 14 runs short of a century for 86 while Derwin Christian hit five fours and four sixes in 70. Raj Nanan claimed 4-43, Leon Johnson 3-58 and Bernard Bailey 2-54.
GCC batted the remainder of the day and reached 143/5 in 45 overs.
Vishal Singh remained unbeaten on 53 with nine fours while Almando Doman was unbeaten on 25.
Seamers Cavell Reece and Dexter George did the damage with the ball for DCC. Reece took 3-21 and George 2-8.
At the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) ground Ryan Ramdass hit 150 on day one with 13 fours and three sixes while Tagenarine Chanderpaul partnered him well with 79. The pair put on 241 runs for the first wicket to enable Everest to reach 306 for 6 declared in 75.5 overs. GYO, who finished on 26 without loss in 13 overs at the end of day one resumed yesterday and were bowled out for 160 in 87 overs. Christopher Deonarine scored 34 as GYO were restricted by spinners Amir Khan, Javed Rasheed and Chanderpaul Hemraj. Khan finished with 4-46 in 29 overs, Rasheed 3-30 in 23 overs and Hemraj 2-11.
After the dismissal of Chanderpaul Hemraj for 21 bowled by Fenton Persaud, Shaeed Mohamed struck a quick fire 82 in just over an hour of batting. Mohamed struck six fours and two sixes before he missed a sweep at Wazir Ali and was bowled. Joseph Perry was the other batsman to be dismissed, via the run out route.
Everest batted the remainder of the day and finished on 172 in 30.1 overs with a lead of 318. Tagenarine Chanderpaul added to his first innings 79 with an unbeaten half century. He scored 51 with two fours.
At Camp Ayanganna GDF, choosing to bat first conceded first innings points after being bowled out for a paltry 93 in 32 overs. Malteenoes in response were limited to 143 in 35 overs.
GDF led by just six runs at close of play, ending on 56/4 in 11 overs and on day two were bowled out for 195.
Travis Blyden scored 46 from 78 deliveries, Terry Fraser 31 from 40, Randy Lindore 34 not out from 31 balls while pacer Trevon Garraway contributed 25 from just 22 for GDF, who lost six wickets to Steven Jacobs in their second innings. Jacobs finished 6-51 from 14.3 overs, while. Shaquille took 2-36.
Chasing 146 to win Malteenoes were led by Shemroy Barrington with 33 from 60 deliveries while his opening partner Delvon McEwan (13) helped add 44 runs for the first wicket. Malteenoes lost the wickets of both openers, Shaquille Williams and Nicosie Barker, but Orin Forde and Steven Jacobs completed the chase. Forde made 39 from 29 balls while Jacobs scored 21 from 11 deliveries. Jeremiah Harris took 2-27 from 6ovrs as Malteenoes won by six wickets in 27 overs.
At Eve Leary Police won by six wickets. Batting first they scored 206 all out in 69 overs. Transport Sports Club managed just 90 in 29 overs.
Transport Sports Club closed on 44/0 in 12 overs and reached 190 all out in 75.5 overs on day two. Charwayne McPherson batted patiently for 55 in 192 balls, while fellow opener Marvin Cato made 31. The pair compiled 58 runs for the first wicket. After their dismissals Steven Alves scored 31 and Ryan Hemraj 27. K. Crawford took 5-12 from 11.5 overs while Pernell London claimed 3-53.
Police reached their target of 75 for the loss of four wickets in 21.2 overs. Norwayne Fredericks made 35 not out. Bowling for Transport Keon Morris took 2-25 while Ewert Samuels and Jonathan Alphonso took one wicket each. Alphonso finished with match figures of 8-65.
