The Ministry of Home Affairs and United Kingdom based Capita Symonds yesterday signed a US$129,750 ($25 million) agreement for the provision of consultancy services for the Guyana Police Force’s Security Sector Strategic Plan (SSSP).
The contract is expected to last about four to six weeks focusing on areas of administration, succession planning, integrity/probity and public relations/communications a GINA release stated.
Present at the signing were Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee, British High Commissioner to Guyana Andrew Ayre, Commissioner of Police (ag) Leroy Brumell and Associate Director of Capita Symonds Paul Wadsworth.
Minister Rohee pointed the need for changes to the 173-year-old institution and remarked on his confidence in the UK firm.
“I have complete confidence in the Capita Symonds team because they have worked in Guyana for many years and they were associated with one of the first strategic plans that was drafted for the force known as the ‘Symonds Report’,” Rohee was quoted as saying.
The British envoy stated that the initiative was valuable for the future development of Guyana and charged all parties to support the implementation the release added.
According to the release Capita Symonds has had prior engagements with the GPF dating back to 2000.
Wadsworth said the company looks forward to lending its support toward the successful implementation of the reforms of the SSSP which it helped craft in 2010. The implementation plan was done by the firm Julian Laite of the United States in February last year.
